Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is made with fine aggregates, cement, and an expansion agent that causes the fresh mixture to rise like bread dough. In fact, this type of concrete contains 80 percent air. In the factory where it is made, the material is molded and cut into precisely dimensioned units.

 

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Concrete masonry units - Autoclaved Cellular Aerated Concrete Blocks product has been specified in IS 2185 (Part 3):1984 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

This standard (Part 3) covers the requirements of autoclave cellular (aerated) Concrete blocks having density up to 1 000 kg, m3.

RAW MATERIALS :

 

·       Cement – Clause 5.1 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

·       Fly Ash – Clause 5.1.1 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

·       Lime – Clause 5.2 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

·       Aggregates – Clause 5.3 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

·       Water -  Clause 5.4 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

·       Additives and Admixtures – Clause 5.5 of IS 2185 (Part 3)

 

TESTING PARAMETERS :

 

·       Dimensions and Tolerances

·       Cement

·       Fly Ash

·       Lime

·       Sand

·       Granulated blast furnace slag

·       Water

·       Additives or Admixtures

·       Surface texture and finish

·       General Physical Requirements

·       Block Density

·       Compressive Strength

·       Thermal Conductivity

·       Drying Shrinkage

 

POSSIBLE TESTS IN A DAY :

 

·       Dimension and Tolerances (Clause 3)

·       Surface Texture and Finish (Clause 7)

·       Block Density (Clause 8.3)
