BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Cast iron/ductile iron drainage pipes and pipe fittings for over ground non-pressure pipeline socket and spigot series product has been specified in IS 1729:2002 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

1.1 This standard covers the requirements of cast iron or ductile iron non-pressure above ground pipes and fittings used for discharge of waste water sewage rain water and for ventilation

1.2 The pipes may be manufactured by centrifugally cast ( spun) process in metal moulds or sand cast and fittings by sand cast process

1.3 This standard is applicable to cast iron or ductile iron pipes and fittings with either Type A or Type B sockets and having spigots as specified in this standard Double socketted pipe lengths and weight have also been Included and these should comply with the requirements of sockets and barrel pipe section specified in the standard In case of other type of socket/spigot joint the design should be based on the dimensions of the spigots given in the standard, for reasons of safety and Interchangeability.

 

RAW MATERIALS :

 

·       Grey Iron: Quality not less than Grade FG 150 of IS 210.

·       Ductile Iron: Quality not less than Grade 400/12 of IS 1865.
