Conduit is a channel or pipe for conveying water or other fluid or for carrying out certain other purposes, such as protecting electric cables. In water-supply systems the term is usually reserved for covered or closed sections of aqueduct, especially those that transport water under pressure.

PVC-U is the most common PVC type for pipes and fittings including transportation of drinking water, soil and waste, sewage and underground drainage and industrial applications. Pipes and fittings made of PVC-U have many benefits.

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Fabricated PVC-U fittings for potable water supplies product has been specified in 10124 (Part 1 to 13):2009 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

This standard (Part 1 to 13) covers general requirements for materials, sizes, methods of test and inspection and marking of all types of fabricated PVC-U fittings for jointing with solvent cement and elastomeric sealing ring joints to the PVC pipes covered in IS 4985, for potable water supplies. This specification covers the sizes of fittings from 20 to 630 mm.
