BIS Certification For Hexagon Head Bolts, Screws And Nuts Of Product Grade A And B - Hexagon Head Screws (SIZE RANGE M 1.6 TO M 64) IS 1364(PART 2) : 2018

Grade-A bolts are the preferred style for most applications. Grade-B bolts have looser tolerances and can be manufactured in a cold or hot-forging process. Has greater tensile strength than Class 4.6, 4.8 and 5.8 bolts.

Hex bolts, also called hexagon screw head bolts, hex cap bolts, hex-cap screws, or machine bolts, are a very common choice when it comes to construction and repair. Hexagon screw head bolts come in a large variety of sizes and diameters.

Hex Cap Screws vs Hex Cap Bolts

The terms “hex cap screw” and “hex cap bolt” are often used synonymously when describing a threaded fastener with a hexagonal head. With that said, bolts are typically designed to be used with one or more nuts, whereas screws are not. Some screws can also create their own threading during installation. In comparison, bolts must be installed into the existing threading of a machine or object. Even with these nuances, many people use the terms “hex cap screw” and “hex cap bolt” interchangeably.

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Hexagon head bolts, screws and nuts of product grade A and B - hexagon head screws (Size range m 1.6 to m 64) product has been specified in IS 1364 (Part 2) : 2018 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Fifth Revision) which is identical with ISO 4017 : 2014 ‘Fasteners - Hexagon head screws - Product grades A and B’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the General Engineering and Fasteners Standards Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

IS 1364 was originally published in 1960 and first revised in 1967. Subsequent to the publication of 1967 edition, many changes had been agreed upon at international level which have been reflected in IS 1367 series of standards covering ‘Technical supply conditions for threaded steel fasteners’. Accordingly, second revision was published in 1983 splitting the standard into 5 parts covering hexagon head bolts, hexagon head screws, hexagon nuts, hexagon thin nuts (chamfered) and hexagon thin nuts (unchamfered).
