Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting molten material into a mould, or mold. Injection moulding can be performed with a host of materials mainly including metals, glasses, elastomers, confections, and most commonly thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.

 

Solvent welding refers to a process in which a solvent or solvent blend with no dissolved polymer is used to create a joint between two thermoplastic parts.

 

A socket is a fitting that simply goes over the end of a pipe. Mostly made by injection moulding.

 

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Injection moulded PVC socket fittings with solvent cement joints for water supplies product has been specified in IS 7834 (Part 1 to 8):1987 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

This standard (Part 1) covers general requirements regarding materials, manufacture, methods of test, inspection and marking of all types of injection moulded PVC socket fittings intended for connection, by using solvent cement, to PVC pipes covered by IS4985 : 1988 [Specification for unplasticized PVC pipes for potable water supplies] for water supplies.

PVC Resin – Clause 2 of IS 7834 (Part 1) : 1987

 

TESTING PARAMETERS :

 

·       Material

·       Dimensions

·       Opacity

·       Effect on Water

·       Stress Relief Test

·       Short term Hydraulic Test

 

POSSIBLE TESTS IN A DAY :

 

·       Size of the fittings

·       Minimum thickness

·       Socket length and diameter at mid-point of socket length

·       Stress relief test

·       Opacity

·       Short term hydraulic test
