GET BIS CERTIFICATION FOR ROTATIONAL MOULDED POLYETHYLENE WATER STORAGE TANKS

IS 12701:1996

Polyethylene tanks suitable to store drinking water for civil purposes, to be used as water reserves for industrial and fire prevention purposes and to collect rain water or wastewater. Polyethylene is also known as polythene or polyethene, is one of the most commonly used plastics in the world. Polyethylenes usually have a linear structure and are known to be addition polymers. The primary application of these synthetic polymers is in packaging. Polyethelyne is often used to make plastic bags, bottles, plastic films, containers, and geomembranes. Over 100 million tonnes of polyethene is produced on an annual basis for commercial and industrial purposes.

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Rotational Moulded Polyethylene Water Storage Tanks product has been specified in IS 12701:1996 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

1.1 This standard covers the requirements of materials, dimensions construction, shape, workmanship, performance requirements and inspection and testing of rotational moulded polyethylene water storage tanks with a nominal service temperature from

1.1.1 These tanks are not meant for underground applications,

1.2 This standard is applicable only LO water storage tanks subjected to the following two conditions:

a) Own hydrostatic head of water, and

b) Tank with uniform flat base support.

1.3 This standard does not cover mobile water tanks and horizontal cylindrical water tanks.
