BIS Certification for Steel Butt Hinges under IS 1341

Steel is the alloy of iron and carbon, where the carbon content ranges up to 2 percent (with a higher carbon content, the material is defined as cast iron).

By far the most widely used material for building the world’s infrastructure and industries, it is used to fabricate everything from sewing needles to oil tankers. In addition, the tools required to build and manufacture such articles are also made of steel.

 

The most common type of hinge used on doors is the butt hinge. It’s so named because the two leaves are mortised into the door and frame, allowing the two to butt up to each other. Builders generally use plain butt hinges for lightweight interior doors. A pin, that may or may not be removable, joins the two leaves (or plates) at the hinge’s knuckles.

 

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Stainless steel butt hinges product has been specified in IS 1341:2018 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

This standard lays down the requirements for materials, dimensions, manufacture and finish of steel butt hinges.

NOTE - The requirements of non-ferrous metal butt hinges has been covered in IS 205.

REFERENCES :

 

The standards listed in Annex A are necessary adjuncts to this standard.
