Yarn is a continuous length of interlocking fibers and is used to make fabrics, as well as crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and rope-making. Yarn is a secondary raw material used in the production of textile goods.

Compared to fiber, the yarn structure has a more significant impact on the internal quality and appearance of the textile. Fineness and twist are two important properties of yarns that should choose appropriately due to the yarn application.

Indian cotton mills are among the most modern and efficient in the world. With 47 million spindles and her 750,000 open-ended rotors, India has her second largest spinning capacity in the world and accounts for the global cotton yarn market share.

Polyester textured yarns is used in knitting & weaving to make polyester fabrics such as consumer fabrics and home furnishing like curtains, bed sheets, bed spreads and draperies. Similarly Polyester high tenacity industrial yarns can be used to make ropes, conveyor belts, safety belts & tire fabric.

BIS is a statutory institution established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,1986  to promote harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and attending to connected matters in the country.

Polyester Textured Yarn product has been specified in IS 17879 :2022 by Bureau of Indian Standards.

SCOPE :

This standard specifies requirements for all types of virgin and recycled polyester textured yarns (PTY) for various end usages.
