This certification is the guarantee to the consumer that - this product is thoroughly tested by the Indian BIS inspector and meets the quality requirement. That ISI mark, which your product bears, is your ticket into the Indian Market.

In various stages of BIS certification, an audit is a significant step. We are elated to announce that, the ERCS team has successfully concluded a BIS audit for our client in Shyam Metalics for their product "Ferroalloys" following  IS 1171, IS 1170, and IS 1470 under the ISI scheme. Consequently, the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued a BIS license for  Ferroalloys as per  IS 1171, IS 1170, IS 1470.

What is BIS?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is an organization dealing with standards of India and is under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. The main operations of this national standard body include product standardization, certification, and testing.

ISI Scheme 

The ISI Mark is the official mark awarded by the Bureau of Indian Standards to producers of different goods. Since its first use in 1955, it has become a symbol of quality, safety, and confidence. It certifies that the product meets the Indian standards (IS) established by India's national standard agency, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Audited Products :

IS 1171 covers specifications, sampling techniques, and testing procedures of BIS certification for Ferromanganese. The license can be granted for all the particle sizes of the Ferromanganese specified in the specification and applied by the applicant/licensee, provided that the firm has all the necessary manufacturing and testing facilities for the manufacture and testing of all other particle sizes of the Ferromanganese proposed to be included in the license.

IS 1170 covers the specifications, sampling technique, and testing procedures for   Ferrochromium. Possible tests in one day are Particle Size tests, All chemical tests & Extraneous Contamination.

IS 1470 covers Silicomanganese's specifications, sampling technique, and testing procedures. The manufacturer shall maintain test records for the tests carried out to establish conformity. Sample Size according to the product manual is 5Kg (for lab sample, Compliance to Cl 6.1.3 of IS 1472 to be ensured)

Suggestions to Manufacturers :

To obtain BIS certification for the product, the manufacturer must produce a standard quality product that fulfills the Indian Standard Specifications (ISS). The interpretations of the BIS officials are consistent with Indian standards.

Before exporting products within India with the standard ISI mark, all producers must get a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

BIS Audit and the Auditing Process : 

An audit is a significant step, in the process of BIS certification under the  FMCS scheme. The BIS officer inspects the factory and the product to be certified. The BIS inspection should be conducted smoothly without any identified non-conformities. BIS audits examine several management system certification systems in partnership with external auditors.

i. Samples are tested at the plant according to the applicable Indian standards.

ii. Sealing of the samples for independent testing at a BIS-recognized laboratory.
