BIS Audit of Grey Iron Casting
We are thrilled to inform you that the ERCS team has completed another BIS audit for our customer, Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd., for their product "Grey Iron Casting" in accordance with IS 210 Scheme - I. As a result, the Bureau of Indian Standards has awarded a BIS license for grey iron casting under IS 210.
What is BIS?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India's national standards body, functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS specializes in product standardization, certification, and testing.
ISI Scheme
Under this scheme, the licensee (manufacturer) is required to use or apply a Standard Mark ISI provided by the Bureau of Indian Standards for goods generated on a manufacturing premises that meet all of the requirements of the applicable Indian Standard(s).
Audited Products :
IS 210 covers grey iron casting. This standard (Part 1) regulates the requirements, method of sampling, and test for Grey Iron Casting designed for general uses, such as for use in Industrial Machinery Parts—from housing materials and hydraulic parts to machine bases and other components, etc.
Suggestions to Manufacturers :
To achieve BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the producer must verify that their product meets the stated Indian Standard Specifications (ISS), which we have directly interpreted to you from BIS authorities in accordance with Indian Standards. All producers must get a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in order to sell their products in India and use the standard ISI mark.

About BIS Auditing Process :
The BIS officer inspects the factory as part of the certification procedure. To get satisfactory results, the BIS inspection should run easily and without any non-conformities.
BIS audits several management system certification systems in collaboration with external auditors. Auditors are appointed based on their qualifications, professional experience, and audit training, as well as their competence.
In the process of audit, auditors verify the following information along with other technicalities :
- Does the organization have a reliable system for recognizing and updating legal and regulatory requirements, such as:
i. Manufacturing process.
ii. List of machinery
iii. Testing equipment - Whether the organization has discovered and kept the relevant legislative and regulatory obligations up to date.
- Whether businesses are using these regulatory requirements as process inputs and monitoring process outputs for compliance, such as
i. Samples are tested at the plant according to the applicable Indian standards.
ii. Seal samples for independent testing at a BIS-recognized laboratory.
