What is BIS?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is an organization dealing with standards of India and is under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. The main operations of this national standard body include product standardization, certification, and testing.

FMCS Scheme

The FMCS BIS Certification for Foreign Manufacturer was established by the BIS Act of 2016 and the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations of 2018. It grants a BIS license to a product manufactured by a foreign manufacturer. The license is provided for goods that meet the appropriate Indian Standards.

Audited Product :

IS 210 covers specifications, sampling techniques, and testing procedures of BIS certification for Grey Iron Castings. No specific requirements for raw materials in the specification.

To obtain BIS certification for the product, the manufacturer must produce a standard quality product that fulfills the Indian Standard Specifications (ISS). The interpretations of the BIS officials are consistent with Indian standards.

i. Samples are tested at the plant according to the applicable Indian standards.

ii. Sealing of the samples for independent testing at a BIS-recognized laboratory.
