We are pleased to inform you that the ERCS team has completed another BIS audit for our foreign customer in Germany for their product "Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes" following IS 17876 under the FMCS program. As a result, the Bureau of Indian Standards has given a BIS License for Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes as per IS 17876.

What is BIS?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India's national standards body, functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS specializes in product standardization, certification, and testing.

FMCS Scheme

The BIS Act of 2016 and the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations of 2018 establish the Foreign Manufacturer Certification Scheme, which grants a BIS license to a foreign manufacturer. The license is awarded for items that meet relevant Indian Standards.

Audited Products :

IS 17876 covers stainless steel pipes and tubes. This standard (Part 1) specifies the specifications, sampling technique, and testing procedures for stainless steel pipes and tubes. It is employed in many various oil and gas applications, as well as in the mechanical and engineering sectors.

Suggestions to Manufacturers :

To achieve BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the producer must verify that their product meets the stated Indian Standard Specifications (ISS), which we have directly interpreted to you from BIS authorities in accordance with Indian Standards.

All producers must get a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in order to sell their products in India and use the standard ISI mark. ERCS Pvt. Ltd. has built a large network within the industry and many BIS departments to help ensure the conformance of the product Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes according to IS 17876.

About BIS Auditing Process

The BIS officer inspects the factory as part of the certification procedure. To get satisfactory results, the BIS inspection should run easily and without any non-conformities.

BIS audits several management system certification systems in collaboration with external auditors. Auditors are appointed based on their qualifications, professional experience, and audit training, as well as their competence.

In the process of audit, auditors verify the following information along with other technicalities :

 1. Does the organization have a reliable system for recognizing and updating legal and regulatory requirements, such as:

 i. Manufacturing process.
 ii. List of machinery
 iii. Testing equipment

2. Whether the organization has discovered and kept the relevant legislative and regulatory obligations up to date.

3. Whether businesses are using these regulatory requirements as process inputs and monitoring process outputs for compliance, such as

  • Samples are tested at the plant according to the applicable Indian standards.
  • Seal samples for independent testing at a BIS-recognized laboratory.

4. Whether the company has the capacity to comply with the legislative and regulatory obligations; such as—

  • Quality Personnel Competence
