As we are aware of the Steel Quality Control Order-2020 order published by the Ministry of Steel, depicting the regulatory compliance requirement for Stainless Steel Tubes and Pipes mandating all kinds of Steel Tubes under the purview of BIS certification. As per the Government of India Regulations, all the Steel Tubes and Pipes manufacturers are liable to have a valid ISI Mark certification as per the Scheme-I (Product Certification) of BIS (Conformity Assessment Rules and Regulations 2018, Schedule-II enacted by the BIS Act 2016).

Commonly used Raw Material for Tube & Pipes
Any firm across the globe can apply for BIS Certificate unless it must possess sufficient machinery to manufacture, suitable equipment to perform the required tests as per IS, and competent quality personnel. Hence, there are 3 basic pillars for any manufacturing unit to hold a BIS license (ISI mark license)
1. Manufacturing Machinery
2. In-house testing laboratory
3. Quality Control In-charge
Any Manufacturing process can be practiced as follows:
IS 17875 – Seamless (Hot Finished/Cold Finished)
IS 17876 – Automated welding process without addition of filler metal
IS 6913 – Seamless or Welded
IS 1161 –
a) Hot finished seamless (HFS);
b) Cold finished seamless (CDS); and
c) Electric resistance welded/high-frequency induction welded (ERW/HFIW).
IS 3601 –
a) Welded tubes (WT) This includes hot finished welded (HFW) tubes, electric resistance welded or high-frequency induction welded (ERW or HFIW) tubes, and oxy-acetylene welded (OAW) tubes
b) Hot finished seamless (HFS) tubes
c) Cold-drawn seamless (CDS) tubes
d) Cold drawn electric resistance welded (CEW)
IS 1239 Part 1 -
a) Hot-finished seamless (HFS);
b) Electric resistance welded (ERW);
c) High-frequency induction welded (HFIW);
d) Hot-finished welded (HFW); and
e) Cold-finished seamless (CDS).
Any Raw Material complying with the chemical composition as mentioned in the Indian Standard IS 17876 for a particular grade can be used in the form of strips. However, it is preferred to use the ISI-marked raw material if you are not having Steel Manufacturing Facility as it would result in the rebate of In-house Spectroscopy for the Chemical Composition test.
Any Raw Material complying with the chemical composition as mentioned in the Indian Standard IS 17875 for a particular grade can be used in the form of bars/mother hollow. However, it is preferred to use the ISI-marked raw material if you are not having Steel Manufacturing Facility Spectrophotometer along with the CRMs/SRMs as it would result in the rebate of In-house Spectroscopy for Chemical Composition test.
