LOW – VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR AND CONTROLGEAR PROXIMITY SWITCHES  – IS/IEC 60947 : PART 5 : SEC 1 : 2009

Low-voltage switchgear and control gear proximity switches are electrical devices that are used to detect the presence or absence of objects in their proximity without physical contact. They operate by emitting a magnetic or electric field that interacts with the object being detected, producing an electrical signal that can be used to control the operation of equipment or machinery.

Proximity switches are commonly used in low-voltage switchgear and control gear to detect the presence or absence of objects, such as doors, gates, and other moving parts. They can also be used to detect the position of objects, such as the position of a valve in a piping system.

There are several types of proximity switches that are commonly used in low-voltage switchgear and control gear, including inductive, capacitive, and magnetic proximity switches.

Inductive proximity switches operate by emitting a magnetic field that is disrupted by the presence of a metallic object, producing an electrical signal that can be used to control the operation of equipment or machinery.

Capacitive proximity switches operate by emitting an electric field that is disrupted by the presence of an object with a different dielectric constant than the surrounding medium, producing an electrical signal that can be used to control the operation of equipment or machinery.

Magnetic proximity switches operate by emitting a magnetic field that is disrupted by the presence of a magnetic object, producing an electrical signal that can be used to control the operation of equipment or machinery.

Proximity switches can be used in a wide range of applications, including industrial automation, robotics, and security systems. Proper installation and maintenance of proximity switches are important to ensure their reliability and effectiveness in controlling the operation of equipment or machinery. Regular testing and inspection of these devices can help to identify and address any issues before they become a safety hazard.

In July 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) added several products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). Low – Voltage switchgear and controlgear proximity Switches was one of them. Under Scheme II of Schedule II, Low – Voltage switchgear and controlgear proximity Switches gets BIS registered and assures that the product is of good quality and safe.
