SMART SPEAKERS (WITH AND WITHOUT DISPLAY) – IS 616 : 2010
Smart speakers are voice-activated devices that can do a variety of things like play music, set reminders, answer questions, control smart home devices, and more. Smart speakers are classified into two types: those with displays and those without.
Amazon Echo and Google Home, for example, are small, voice-activated devices that can be placed in any room of the house. They listen for commands and respond with voice prompts using built-in microphones and voice recognition technology. These devices can be programmed to play music, read the news, set timers, and control other smart home devices, among other things.
Smart speakers with screens, such as the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub, can display information in addition to voice prompts. This is especially useful for tasks that require visual feedback, such as displaying a recipe or a calendar. These devices can also make video calls and play videos.
Smart speakers of both types are typically controlled via a smartphone app or voice commands. They can be linked to a variety of smart home devices, including lights, thermostats, and security systems, to provide centralised control over the home environment.
They enable users to control a wide range of devices and access information using only their voice. By displaying information and allowing users to interact with content in new ways, smart speakers with displays can provide even more functionality.
In July 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) added several products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). Smart Speakers (with and without Display) was one of them. Under Scheme II of Schedule II, Smart Speakers gets BIS registered and assures that the product is of good quality and safe.
