UPS/INVERTORS OF RATING5KVA IS 16242 (PART 1)

In the case of a power outage or other disruption to the main power supply, UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and inverters with a rating of 5kVA (kilovolt-amperes) or less are widely used to provide backup power to small and medium-sized electrical loads.

UPS systems typically consist of a battery bank, an inverter, and a charging system. When the main power source is available, the UPS system charges the battery bank and sends power to the load via the inverter. In the event of a power loss or other disruption to the main power source, the UPS system shifts to battery power, which is then converted to alternating current (AC) via the inverter and supplied to the load.

Inverters, on the other hand, convert DC power from a battery or other source to AC power for use by the load. Inverters can be used in a wide range of applications, from powering small electronic devices to providing backup power to larger loads.

UPS and inverter systems with a rating of 5kVA or less are commonly used in home and small office settings to provide backup power to computers, networking equipment, and other critical devices. They are also used in industrial settings to provide backup power to small motors and other electrical loads.

When selecting a UPS or inverter system with a rating of 5kVA or less, it is important to consider factors such as the required backup runtime, the voltage and frequency of the main power supply, and the specific electrical loads that will be connected to the system. It is also important to consider the quality and reliability of the system, as well as any additional features such as automatic voltage regulation or surge protection.

Overall, UPS and inverter systems with a rating of 5kVA or less are an important tool for ensuring reliable power in a wide range of applications, from home and small office settings to industrial and commercial environments.

In July 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) added several products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). UPS/Invertors of rating≤5kVA was one of them. Under Scheme II of Schedule II, UPS/Invertors of rating≤5kVA gets BIS registered and assures that the product is of good quality and safe.
