BIS CERTIFICATION OF SAFETY OF HOUSEHOLD AND SIMILAR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES –ELECTRIC STOVES IS 302 Part 2 Sec 202

An electric stove or electric range is a stove with an integrated electrical heating device to cook and bake. Electric stoves became popular as replacements for solid-fuel (wood or coal) stoves which required more labor to operate and maintain. Some modern stoves come in a unit with built-in extractor hoods.

  • IS 302(Part 2 - Sec 202) cover Safety of household and similar electrical appliances –Electric stoves. This standard covers the general and safety requirements and methods of test for electrically heated stoves containing open type heating elements, designed for connection to supplies at voltages not exceeding 250 V, ac single-phase 50 Hz or dc. This standard does not cover multi-unit type electric stoves having more than one heating unit.
  • IS 302(Part 2 - Sec 202) specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Safety of household and similar electrical appliances –Electric stoves as follows

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Safety of household and similar electrical appliances –Electric stoves (IS 302(Part 2 - Sec 202)) :

  • Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality control) order.
  • As per this order, allthe manufacturers of Safety of household and similar electrical appliances –Electric stoves are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.

  • In the certification process, product testing is the most important stage as it determines whether the quality of the product meets Indian standards.
  • For the same purpose, investments in testing facilities are required to install test equipment for internal factory test laboratories.
  • Apart from charges mentioned above in the table, we may ask you to pay/reimbursement for a Pre-Visit at your Factory Premises to ensure the conformity of your product as per the relevant Indian Standard & BIS guidelines for its BIS certification.
