As the name of the cement denotes, hydro means water and phobic means against. Hydrophobic cement is obtained by grinding portland cement clinker with a film-forming substance such as oleic acid in order to reduce the rate of deterioration when the cement is stored under unfavourable conditions. · IS 8043 cover Hydrophobic Portland Cement. This standard specifies the manufacturing, chemical and physical requirements and testing of Hydrophobic Portland Cement.

· IS 8043 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Hydrophobic Portland Cement as follows

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Hydrophobic Portland Cement (IS 8043) :

· Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Cement (Quality control) order.

· As per the Cement (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers of Hydrophobic Portland Cement are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
