Milk-cereal based complementary food is defined as food obtained from milk and milk solids, variety of cereals, pulses, soybean, millets, nuts and edible oil seeds and may contain other food additives and nutritionally significant minerals and vitamins.

  • Cereals in combination with milk solids are generally used for the preparation of weaning foods to improve the overall quality.

  • IS 1656 cover Milk- cereal Based Complementary foods. This standard prescribes the requirements, methods of test and sampling for milk-cereal based complementary foods intended to complement the diet of infants after six months up to twenty four months of age.

  • Ministry of health and family welfare(food safety and standards authority of india) have specified Food safety and standards (prohibition and restrictions on sales) regulations, 2011 which have mandated No person shall manufacture, sell, store or exhibit for sale, an infant milk food, infant formula and milk cerealbased weaning food, processed cereal based weaning food and follow up formula except under Bureau of IndianStandards Certification Mark.
