Introduction to Indian Standard IS 15742; Textiles - Textiles - requirements for

IS 15742 cover Textiles - Textiles - requirements for clothing made of

limited flame spread materials and material assemblies affording

protection against heat and flame - specification

This standard specifies the performance requirements for the limited flame

spread properties of textile materials and material assemblies used in

protective clothing affording protection against heat and flame.

This standard is applicable to clothing such as ladies wear made of

synthetic fibres and children wear of all kinds and also other protective

clothing where protection against heat and fue mainly due to accidental

contact with small igniting flames is required in circumstances where there

is no significant heat and fire hazard.

IS 15742 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Textiles

- Textiles - requirements for clothing made of limited flame spread

materials and material assemblies affording protection against heat and

flame - specification as follows :

(i) Size designation

(ii) Pockets and Closures

(iii) Heat Resistance

(iv) Dimensional change of textiles materials

(v) Radiant Heat

(vi) Tensile strength

(vii) Convective heat

(viii) Tear Resistance

(ix) Seam Strength

1. Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Textiles - Textiles - requirements for

clothing made of limited flame spread materials and material assemblies

affording protection against heat and flame - specification (IS 15742)

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section

16 read with section 17 and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of

Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government is of the

opinion that it is necessary so to do in the public interest and after

consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, hereby makes the following

Order, namely

Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2022.

As per the Protective Textiles (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers

of Textiles - Textiles - requirements for clothing made of limited flame

spread materials and material assemblies affording protection

against heat and flame - specification are obligated to obtain ISI Mark

Certification.

2. Types of Textiles - Textiles - requirements for clothing made of limited

flame spread materials and material assemblies affording protection

against heat and flame - specification covered under IS 15742

Licence is granted to use Standard Mark as per IS 15742 with the following

scope:

3. Procedure to obtain BIS Certification of Textiles - Textiles - requirements

In the certification process, product testing is the most important stage as it

determines whether the quality of the product meets Indian standards.

For the same purpose, investments in testing facilities are required to install test

equipment for internal factory test laboratories.

pay/reimbursement for a Pre-Visit at your Factory Premises to ensure the

conformity of your product as per the relevant Indian Standard & BIS guidelines

for its BIS certification.
