IS 15741 : 2007 cover Textiles - Resistance to Ignition of Curtains and
Drapes
This standard specifies requirements for the resistance to ignition of
curtains and drapes used for public places/buildings.
NOTE - The levels of ignition resistance have been set after careful
consideration of the fire risk of the particular end-use environment
involved. These levels do not necessarily reflect the behaviour of curtains
and drapes in a fully developed fire.
Curtains and drapes for domestic use and transport are not covered in this
standard.
IS 15741 : 2007 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the
Textiles - Resistance to Ignition of Curtains and Drapes as follows :
(i) Ignitability
(ii) Durability of fire retardant property
(iii) Toxicity Index
(iv) Visibility due to smoke released on combustion
1. Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Textiles - Resistance to Ignition of
Curtains and Drapes (IS 15741 : 2007)
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section
16 read with section 17 and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of
Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government is of the
opinion that it is necessary so to do in the public interest and after
consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, hereby makes the following
Order, namely
Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2022.
As per the Protective Textiles (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers
of Textiles - Resistance to Ignition of Curtains and Drapes are
obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
2. Types of Textiles - Resistance to Ignition of Curtains and Drapes covered
under IS 15741 : 2007
Licence is granted to use Standard Mark as per IS 15741 : 2007 with the
following scope:

In the certification process, product testing is the most important stage as it
determines whether the quality of the product meets Indian standards.
For the same purpose, investments in testing facilities are required to install test
equipment for internal factory test laboratories.
Apart from charges mentioned above in the table, we may ask you to
pay/reimbursement for a Pre-Visit at your Factory Premises to ensure the
conformity of your product as per the relevant Indian Standard & BIS guidelines
for its BIS certification.
