This standard specifies requirements for the resistance to ignition of
upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture.
NOTE - The levels of ignition resistance have been set after careful
consideration of the fire risk of the particular end-use environment
involved. These levels do not necessarily reflect the behaviour of the
upholstered seating in a fully developed fire.
IS 15768 : 2008 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the
Textiles - Resistance to ignition of upholstered composites used for non-
domestic furniture as follows :

(ii) Durability of flame retardant property
(iii) Toxicity Index
(iv) Visibility due to smoke released on combustion
(v) Smouldering Cigarette Test
(vi) Match Flame Equivalent Test

1. Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Textiles - Resistance to ignition of
upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture (IS 15768 : 2008)
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section
16 read with section 17 and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of
Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government is of the
opinion that it is necessary so to do in the public interest and after
consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, hereby makes the following
Order, namely
Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2022.
As per the Protective Textiles (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers
of Textiles - Resistance to ignition of upholstered composites used
for non-domestic furniture are obligated to obtain ISI Mark
Certification.
2. Types of Textiles - Resistance to ignition of upholstered composites used
for non-domestic furniture covered under IS 15768 : 2008
Licence is granted to use Standard Mark as per IS 15768 : 2008 with the
