Portland White Cement is similar to grey portland cement except for its higher degree of whiteness and fineness. White cement is produced on pulverization of white portland cement clinkers. Clinker obtains a white colour when the total iron content is less than 0.5 % and the iron is reduced to ferrous iron. White cement has the same properties as that of OPC. However, there are some of the differences.

White Portland cement is used in the following areas –

· Colours like bright red, yellow, and green can be produced with white cement as a base. Production of blue cement increases the cost further, but it can also be produced from white cement.

· IS 8042 cover White Portland Cement. This standard specifies the manufacturing, chemical and physical requirements and testing of the White Portland Cement.

· IS 8042 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the White Portland Cement as follows

· Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Cement (Quality control) order.

· As per the Cement (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers of White Portland Cement are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
