Wireless Receiver

A Wireless Receiver is a device that is used to receive signals wirelessly, often using radio frequency (RF) waves, and transform them into a form that may be used for communication or the transfer of data. Wireless receivers are also known as radio frequency (RF) receivers. In wireless communication systems, such as radio and television broadcasts, mobile phones, Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth devices, and even satellite communication systems, it is a frequent component.

Receivers for wireless signals generally include an antenna, a tuner, a demodulator, and a decoder in their construction. The RF signals are picked up by the antenna, which then delivers them to the tuner, which then picks the signal that is required and amplifies it. The signal is then changed from its original analogue form into a digital form that can be decoded by the decoder of the receiver once it has been sent through the demodulator. After this, the digital signal is interpreted by the decoder, and it is converted either into data that may be used or into audio and visual signals.

There is a wide range of sizes and shapes available for wireless receivers. These receivers may range from simple USB dongles that can be plugged into a computer to bigger, more complicated devices that are used in satellite communication systems. In today's contemporary wireless communication systems, they are a crucial component that enables the transmission and receipt of data and information over vast distances without the need of wires or cables. They make this possible by using radio waves.

Wireless receivers normally function on a limited range of frequencies, and their reception capabilities are optimised for the signals that are broadcast on those frequencies.

The following are some examples of popular kinds of wireless receivers:

Radio Receivers: These radio receivers are used to receive radio transmissions and may be found in a wide variety of devices, ranging from handheld radios to stereo systems installed in automobiles.

Television Receivers: These receivers are used to receive television broadcasts and may be found in TVs, set-top boxes, and other video devices. Televisions are one of the most common places where you can find a television receiver.

Mobile Communication Receivers: These receivers allow mobile phones and other wireless communication devices to receive signals from cell towers and other wireless networks. They are utilised in mobile phones since they are small and lightweight.

Basic Requirement to get WPC (ETA) approval

Following requirement should be fulfilled by applicant –

Foreign Manufacturers –

Foreign Manufacturer (Applicant) has to appoint Authorized Indian Representative (AIR).

If Foreign Manufacture (applicant) has the Branch office/Liaison office in India then, they can become an AIR.

Domestic Manufacturer –

The domestic (Indian) Manufacturer can directly apply for ETA and import license without nomination of AIR.

Required Documents

For ETA Certificate –

  1. Copy of Company Registration /GST registration (For address Verification)
  2. ID and address proof of authorized person
  3. Radio Frequency (RF) Test report from any foreign laboratory that is ISO 17025 certified or an Indian laboratory that is NABL approved
  4. Authorization letter (If authorized person is other than CEO)
  5. Product technical details

For Import License –

  • ETA Certificate
  • Purchase order
  • IEC Certificate
  • Proforma Invoice

What is RF (Radio frequency) test report and how to get it?

RF (Radio Frequency) testing is a method of checking the frequency of radio transmissions to ensure that they are efficiently using the spectrum. In order to achieve maximum efficiency, it is essential to ensure that radio waves in the airspace do not conflict with one another.

Manufacturers/ Importer need to get the RF test report from the ILAC/NABL accredited lab for ETA approval to sell the product in India. If the multiple RF modules contains in the particular product, then the test report of all modules to uploaded to get ETA approval.

Process to get Equipment type approval (ETA) from WPC department:

  1. Checking EN standard and RF testing from AuthorizedLaboratory
  2. Documents Preparation
  3. Application Filing to WPC (Online portal generation)
  4. Submitting the requisite fee online to Govt.
  5. Application Scrutinization by WPC
