Under the BIS Certificate of Conformity, the Government of India releases the Quality Control Order which makes the use of the ISI mark compulsory for some products for different reasons such as environmental protection, public interest, national security unfair trade practices, and human, and animal health.


Overview of the BIS QCO for K Acid


There is an important update for all the manufacturers of K Acid. The Government recently issued the K Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2024. The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers issued these orders.


1. Date of Implementation:

This order shall come into force on the 14th of May, 2025.

2. Applicability:

These orders apply to the K-Acid


Exemptions:

This order does not apply to the said products that are meant for export.




To fulfill the quality requirements, all the K Acid, K Acid & Vinyl Sulphone products must comply with the corresponding Indian Standards as follows -

Note — For the Schedule, it is specified that the most recent version of the Indian Standards published by the Bureau from time to time under the provisions of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).


3. Standards Compliance: 

The products -  K Acid, K Acid, and Vinyl Sulphone must comply with the corresponding Indian Standard. The  products must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau in accordance of to Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.


4. Certification and Enforcement: 

The Bureau of Indian Standards is recognized as responsible for certifying and enforcing the quality standards applicable to  K Acid products. Violators of such conditions of this order shall face the penalty according to the applicable Act. The QCO implementation authority is the national standards authority of India - the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).


How BIS Works For  K Acid:

 

BIS certification frequently involves licensing and surveillance procedures. The procedure of licensing has the following steps:

● The manufacturer shall apply for BIS certification.

● A preliminary inspection of the factory will be conducted by BIS officer.

● Afterwards product samples will be checked.

● According to the test results the BIS officer will decide the outcome.

● Following the inspection, the inspecting officer will conduct a complete assessment of the factory through surveillance.

 

The surveillance technique involves the following steps:

● The BIS inspectors will contact the factory to examine the test results.

● The inspection officer will send the samples to the separate labs.

● The test report will include the remarks about complaints or inquiry.

● Following the assessment of the report, the BIS license is issued for K Acid
