The Government of India issues Quality Control Orders (QCOs) necessitating the use of the Standard Mark with a BIS Certificate of Conformity (CoC). The government deemed it necessary for several reasons, including public interest, human and animal health preservation, environmental safety, the prohibition of unfair trade practices, and national security.
We are glad to inform you about an important update on the Indian Standard for Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This update applies to all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product dealers. The Steel and Steel Products BIS QCO 2024.was issued by the Ministry of Steel.
1. Date of Implementation :
This order will come into force on the date mentioned in the Official Gazette.
2. Applicability:
Exemptions:
This order is not applied to : Steel and steel products manufactured domestically for export that conform to any other specification required by a foreign buyer.
3. Standards Compliance:
Please refer to the QCO for the context of the aforementioned data -
(a) Steel and steel products listed in Column 3 of Schedule 1 must comply with the Indian Standards listed in Column 2 of the same Schedule, effective from the dates mentioned in Column 5.
(b) Steel and steel products described in column (3) of Schedule 1 must be accompanied by a Test Certificate with the Standard Mark issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer with each consignment.
To meet the quality requirements, all Steel products must adhere to the appropriate Indian Standards as follows -

4. Certification and Enforcement:
The Bureau of Indian Standards is recognized as responsible for certifying and enforcing the quality standards applicable to Hot-Dip Galvanized Automotive Applications IS 18385: 2023 product. Anyone who breaches this order will face the penalty as outlined in the applicable Act.
Note - For above mentioned Indian Standards, the latest version of Indian Standards including the amendments thereof, as notified by the Bureau of Indian Standards from time to time shall apply.
